TONGUE + HEART: The Outburst / Jerwood Queer Artists Programme supports four queer performance makers living in Northern Ireland to develop their practice through a 2022/23 15-month programme, designed by the participating artists in collaboration with Outburst’s creative team. The supported artists are Maoilíosa Scott, Thomas Wells, TJ Tytler and Phillip McCrilly. Each artist will receive a £4000 fee to participate in the programme which will see them develop their work towards live presentation at Outburst Queer Arts Festival in November 2023, with additional support for production.
The programme aims to include access to queer mentors who will support artists to take new creative risks, sharing ideas and works in development with a trusted gang, queer critique and specially tailored workshops to supercharge creative practice.
“We’re really excited to work with Jerwood Arts on this vital programme for queer artists in Northern Ireland. Belfast is home to some of the most exciting queer performance work emerging on these islands right now and this programme will support artists to step into potentials that take their work and ideas to a new level, locally and internationally.” – Ruth McCarthy, Artistic Director of Outburst Arts.
