Photoworks present a day workshop for early-career artists offering guidance and practical tips, the event will be led by curator and researcher Rose Lejeune alongside communications specialist and writer Nicola Jeffs who will start the day off with a workshop on writing about and for and about your practice.
This will be followed by Amanda Gray, (partner) and Ana Yiannikas (legal assistant) from Art Law, Mishcon de Reya LLP, who will be discussing how to navigate the art market, setting up best business practices from the outset and protecting the artist’s ongoing legacy. As specialists in the field of art law, they will provide you with an overview of areas ranging from contract law, reputation to royalties.
The workshop will finish off with a talk from artist Lorenzo Vitturi on ways to sustain your artistic practice drawing on his own professional experience.
Format
10.30-12pm: Writing about your practice with Rose Lejeune and Nicola Jeffs, materials included.
12-1.15pm: Navigating the Art market and protecting the Artist’s legacy with Mishcon de Reya LLP, talk and Q&A.
1:15-2pm: Break with free teas and coffees. Further refreshments also available from on-site café The School House.
2-3pm: Lorenzo Vitturi, ways to sustain your artistic practice, talk and Q&A.
Lorenzo Vitturi is a photographer and sculptor based in London. Formerly a cinema set painter, Vitturi has brought this experience into his photographic practice, which revolves around site-specific interventions at the intersection of photography, sculpture and performance. Nicola Jeffs is a communications specialist and writer, she has worked in commercial art galleries, museums, festivals, biennials, in agencies and in-house, developing global publicity and communications campaigns for over 12 years. She has worked in-house, including leading the Communications teams at White Cube, Hayward Gallery, Towner Eastbourne and Brighton Festival and now Photoworks. She has also worked as a publicist for the National Gallery, London 2012, Arts Council England and in an agency in Berlin looking after Gallery Weekend, art Berlin contemporary and other visual culture projects. She also writes for this is tomorrow, Culture 24 and other arts titles.
Rose Lejeune is a curator and researcher working with public institutions, galleries and private individuals to explore collecting contemporary art with a specific interest in context-based, social and performative practices.
