Tŷ Cerdd’s CoDI Composer Pathways is a multi-faceted programme for Welsh and Wales-based music creators. It was launched in 2018 to create a community of composers and provide them with developmental opportunities. The programme is made up of multiple artist-led pathways, including workshops, training, and networking, that nurture creativity through a lens of diversity and access.
Three of the pathways were opened for applications in Summer 2023, and Tŷ Cerdd announced today the 16 early-career music creators selected to participate in these pathways.
Six artists have been selected to participate in Composers’ Studio, which will support early-career composers to write a 5-minute piece for a conducted ensemble of 12 players.

Composers’ Studio is delivered in partnership with UPROAR – Wales’s new contemporary ensemble, artistic director Michael Rafferty – and with composer mentors Lynne Plowman and Richard Baker. This pathway is supported by Jerwood Developing Artists Fund, amongst other funders.
Four artists have been selected to participate in BŴM!, a pathway to support early-career artists making outdoor music and sound that responds to themes of the climate crisis.
The selected artists are:
BŴM! is a partnership with Oxford Contemporary Music and Articulture and will support artists to develop practical and creative skills and to learn about embedding climate-responsive work into their practice. This pathway is supported by Jerwood Developing Artists Fund, amongst other funders.
Tŷ Cerdd also announced six artists to participate in Penguin Pebbling, a pathway to support neuro-divergent music creators to explore techniques and approaches over a series of workshops, leading to a final sharing event or recording.
The selected artists are: Neo Ukandu, Eranan Thirumagan, Laura Phillips, Ffion Campbell-Davies, James Henry Bennett Jones, and Rhiannon Takel.
