Tako Taal is an artist, filmmaker and programmer, based in Glasgow. In 2020, she was selected for Survey II, a major touring exhibition led by Jerwood Arts that presents new commissions by 10 early-career artists from across the UK, providing a distinctive snapshot of current artistic concerns and approaches.
Tako has now been shortlisted for the Margaret Tait Award, Scotland’s most prestigious annual moving image prize for artists. Inspired by the pioneering Orcadian filmmaker and poet Margaret Tait (1918–99), the award recognises experimental and innovative artists working with the moving image, offering a unique avenue of commissioning and production support and providing a high-profile platform to exhibit newly commissioned work.
The Margaret Tait Award shortlist also includes Andrew Black, Christian Noelle Charles, Winnie Herbstein and Mathew Wayne Parkin. The award will be announced on Wednesday 3 March 2021.
