#ConcertLab was instigated with our support in 2017 for orchestra players and their audience to begin to ask why the way we present classical music in concerts has not changed in 200 years. In 2018, a second edition will introduce an entirely new collective of musicians to a tailored programme of coaching, designed to increase their staging and presentation skills, and to offer them autonomy over how the work is programmed and performed. In this way it contributes towards the players confidence and creativity at a crucial point of their development.
The Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards celebrate the outstanding, the pioneering, and the inspirational in live classical music. They are the highest recognition for classical music-making in the United Kingdom and reflect our guiding principles of Excellence, Creativity, Understanding and Inclusivity.
These independent awards were set up in 1989 to celebrate the outstanding achievements of both young and established, British and International, musicians. There is no restriction on the nationality of recipients, but the awards are for achievements within the United Kingdom.
The awards honour a broad sweep of live music across 13 categories, including for performers, composers, inspirational arts organisations learning, participation and engagement. The Awards are peer-judged. Each category is decided by an eminent jury from the music profession.
The RPS Music Awards will be presented on Wednesday 9 May 2018 by the Master of the Queen’s Music, Judith Weir.
