PRS Foundation’s Composers’ Fund

Launched in 2016, PRS Foundation’s Composers’ Fund recognises the need for composers to have direct access to funding at pivotal stages in their career. For 2020 and 2021, Jerwood Arts is partnering with PRS Foundation to support four rounds of the fund, each offering grant support of up to £10,000 to 6-8 composers per round. Support from Jerwood Arts will specifically go towards selected artists who are within the first 10 years of establishing their composing careers. A development opportunity for composers with a strong track record; giving direct access to funding at pivotal stages in their careers

The Composers’ Fund is a development opportunity for composers with a strong track record; giving direct access to funding at pivotal stages in their career. Funding is available to composers who are already making a significant cultural contribution in the UK and have the potential for greater impact in the UK and overseas. Recipients of this fund include Errollyn Wallen, Gavin Higgins, Laurence Osborn, Emily Howard, Mark Bowden, and Charlotte Bray.

There are two application rounds each year and support is available for composers who can make the case for support that would enable them to make a significant step change in their career. This fund is unique as composers can apply for anything that they can make a valid case for. Previous projects have included recordings, the promotion and performance of existing works, international co-commissions and development, performer collaboration, residencies, sabbaticals or childcare costs and project or promotional support.
