Jerwood Writer in Residence provides a paid writing opportunity and developmental support for outstanding UK-based writers, inviting resident writers to engage with exhibitions and Jerwood Arts wider work as they choose. The programme aims to publish thoughts and essays that open up contextual debate surrounding the issues and themes explored by artists within the exhibition programme.
The Jerwood Writers in Residence 2020 are:
Alex Hull
Alex Hull is a writer and curator based in London. In 2018, she graduated from Goldsmiths with a postgraduate degree in Contemporary Art Theory, where she wrote a dissertation about the representation of prison abolition in visual culture and its urgency within a wider postcapitalist political project. She has written for London Photography Diary, The Emotional Art Magazine and Art Monthly, whose radio show she has also hosted on Resonance FM. She is also co-founder of g_URL, a curatorial project that collaborated with emerging female-identifying artists who incorporate and interrogate technology within their practice.
Alex will respond to two exhibitions: Jerwood/Photoworks Awards 2020 and Jerwood/FVU Awards 2020: Hindsight.
Marek Sullivan
Marek Sullivan is a traditionally trained joiner and writer based in Somerset, UK. His writing has appeared in Frieze and Poetry Review.
Marek was selected for Jerwood Writer in Residence 2020 but his residency has been delayed until 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
