Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange

The Jerwood Newlyn Residency

Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange is a contemporary visual art organisation delivering a programme across two venues and increasingly off-site. Believing that art can inspire and drive change, their mission is to connect Cornwall with visual arts internationally, for the benefit of the community and development of artists. Opportunities for artists to work within the organisation, exploring and developing their own practice in response to the wider mission of the Gallery

Over the past decade the organisation’s commitment to supporting artists’ experimentation has defined its programme, offering artists the time and space to explore conceptual and practical issues. It now wants to test the potential of inviting artists to work across the whole organisation, moving beyond discreet programmes and intervening wherever their interest takes them.

The Jerwood Newlyn Residency will offer opportunities for artists to work within the organisation, exploring and developing their own practice in response to the wider mission of the Gallery. Resident artists may choose to focus their activities in a particular department, programme or location, with a particular invitation to contribute to debates around the civic role of the Gallery, interrogating this socially-engaged strand of their work. It provides artists with an extraordinary opportunity to develop their own practice with the full support of the wider gallery team and its network.
