Twenty-nine new commissions by early-career makers, including Laura Ellen Bacon, Chien-Wei Chang, David Clarke, Carl Clerkin, Julie Cooke, Robert Dawson, Nora Fok, David Gates, Joseph Harrington, Tony Hayward, David Rhys Jones, Kirsty McDougall, Nicola Malkin, Taslim Martin, Flora McLean, Rowan Mersh, Gareth Neal, Karen Nicol, Heather Park, Lina Peterson, Laura Potter, Tomoaki Suzuki, Ingrid Tait, Marloes ten Bhomer, and Maud Traon.
The 29 makers were selected by an independent panel comprising engineer and jewellery designer Hans Stofer, ceramic artist Richard Slee and textiles artist Freddie Robins. The exhibition, designed by Michael Marriot, took visitors on a visual journey through the different approaches to the art of making, highlighting its importance as a visual arts discipline.
Jerwood Contemporary Makers ran from 2008- 2010 and was initiated to encourage new and stimulating ways of showing work across a range of craft disciplines and to support emerging talent. Jerwood Charitable Foundation channeled a total of £328,005 through the programme.
