Focal Point Gallery (FPG) is a public contemporary art gallery in South Essex. FPG presents four major exhibitions per year alongside an ambitious programme of workshops, talks, film screenings, and offsite projects.
FPG are committed to identifying and supporting the most innovative early-career artists today. Through new funding from Jerwood Developing Artists Fund, FPG x Jerwood Presents will commission two artists to produce their first solo institutional exhibitions. For both artists this will constitute a paid opportunity to develop a major new body of work, supported by a wider programme of professional development opportunities, resources, and mentoring at this pivotal moment in their careers.
Maz Murray, an artist filmmaker based in London and Basildon, is the first artist to be selected through this programme. Maz uses satire, surrealism, melodrama, and humour to talk about queer and trans identity, class, and the complexities of public life. Their exhibition will run at Focal Point Gallery from March-June 2024.
