Tŷ Cerdd’s CoDI Composer Pathways is a multi-faceted programme for Welsh and Wales-based music creators which was launched in 2018 with the aim of creating a community of composers and providing them with developmental opportunities.
The 2023/24 edition of the programme will see new support from Jerwood Developing Artists Fund, joining Arts Council Wales and PRS Foundation. The programme is made up of multiple artist-led pathways, including workshops, training, and networking, that nurture creativity through a lens of diversity and access.

What Tŷ Cerdd have been doing through CoDI has transformed opportunities for early-career music creators in Wales over recent years, and we are thrilled to be contributing to the next season. The pathways we are supporting speak to both the ambitions of composers at a pivotal moment in developing their practice, and some of the pressing issues facing the sector, whether that’s empowering learning-disabled music creators or responding to the climate crisis. We are excited to see the pathways the selected artists take.
Three of the pathways are open to expressions of interest, you can register through the Tŷ Cerdd website. Full details of the opportunities will be made available in June 2023.
The pathways are:
Composers’ Studio
Mentoring and support in writing for a 12-piece conducted ensemble, in collaboration with UPROAR, and lead composers Lynne Plowman and Richard Baker.

BWM!
Supporting four artists/groups to develop skills in making outdoor music and sound, with a focus on Climate Justice – in partnership with OCM & Articulture.

Penguin Pebbling
A pathway for six neuro-divergent artists, in collaboration with Aubergine Café and duo Ardal Bicnic.

Bwthyn Sonig
Enabling learning-disabled artists to express original music, in partnership with CGWM, Touch Trust, DAC, and Sonic Bothy
Supported by Jerwood Arts, ACW, and PRS Foundation.
Interact
This pathway will include OFF-GRID, extending and developing this nationwide network of sound artists and music creators working in unconventional music practice. The opportunity will also include orchestration skills in association with BBC NOW, mentoring, workshops, and networking.
