Jerwood Makers Open 2017 artist Juli Bolaños-Durman receives Craft Council Hothouse Makers Award

This page was made some time ago and may contain information which is now out of date

Hothouse is a creative and business development programme for up-and-coming makers. It has established itself as the gold-standard professional development programme over the last seven years. More than 200 makers have benefitted from the programme with over 90% of makers saying it has enabled them to think differently about the direction of their career.

This year nine jewellers, six ceramists, six textile makers, three glass makers, and five furniture makers will go through the programme across the UK with Craft Scotland funding the places of makers living and working in Scotland.

Juli Bolaños-Durman’s work for Jerwood Makers Open (28 June- 27 August 2017 at Jerwood Space) will explore the journey of transformation which takes place as she converts ordinary objects into objets d’art. She will make a colourful large-scale glass installation made of many intricately cut sculptures, using found and blown glass and create an intimate atmosphere between the creature-like figurines which come to life with dramatic lighting.
