Please tell us who you are and what you’ve been working on recently.
We are Tawanda Mapanda and Takudzwa Mashonganyika and we go by the name Ngoma Project (which is an African drum) and we have been working recently on fusion of music of both African and western instruments and styles and aim to share it to different crowds.
What drew you to each other’s practice?
We have been working on another project together and we decided to merge the two sounds (beat boxing and marimba), totally different sounds to making something unique.
How will you use the 1:1 FUND?
To purchase or upgrade music gear and instruments.
Why did you choose the idea you will be working on?
It suits all age groups is fun and anyone can make a beat with just clapping, stamping of the feet or using the mouth to produce vibrations. Making sound – at the end of the day – everyone benefits and learns something new.
What is the one thing you most hope to gain from undertaking this work?
More experience and a different working environment to see how people react to new fusion and learning too.
