Jo Bannon

Jo Bannon makes performances which are hybrid pieces of performance, dance and live art. The work unpicks identity, sensory perception and human encounter, and explores how our physical bodies experience the world around us in an accessible, intimate and sometimes challenging way.

Jo has developed and presented original work with organisations in the UK, Europe, China, Korea, Australia and Brazil including The Barbican, Southbank Centre, Art Gallery of Western, Arnolfini, The Times Museum, Korea Disability Arts Centre and the National Theatre. Jo also works as a dramaturg and is a founder member of artist collective Residence.

Jo’s Jerwood Bursary will support early research into a new project centred around vision and faith, looking at how we see and what we choose to believe. Jo will undergo training in Audio Description and shadow and be mentored by leading disabled and non-disabled directors and choreographers to inform future performance practice.
