Jane’s work has featured in numerous group exhibitions internationally. In 2017 she presented an ambitious, large-scale solo show titled Lead Me Not Into Temptation at Block 336 supported by Arts Council England and the GIRLPOWER Collection. It was featured in the Anomie Review of Contemporary British Painting 2018 alongside artists such as Lubaina Himid, Rose Wylie and Peter Doig.
Jane’s practice is situated between painting and installation. Recent works feature figures in garden-like spaces and consider the complexity of relationships, sexuality and gender. Apocryphal tales and autobiographical stories are interwoven; and humour is used as a device to disguise complex, multi-layered meanings. Assemblies of painterly objects and inventive painted compositions hint at narratives that aim to twist the familiar into something more disturbingly revealing.
Jane’s Jerwood Bursary will support her professional development through a series of meetings with specialist arts professionals.
