Her short fiction has been published by MIR Online and Open Pen, and was shortlisted for the 2019 Bridport Prize. Esther is currently writing a novel about West Papua, following a period of writing time supported by Arts Council England in 2019. She loves to follow wherever a project beckons, from mineralogy, geology and anthropology, to spending lots of time in hospital waiting rooms (while perfectly healthy).
Esther’s Jerwood bursary will fund her research into a remote corner of the British Isles, beloved for its extreme and brutal beauty.
